Onboarding, Professional Development, and Team Building for Admissions Professionals in Christian Higher Education Institutions

This action research study focused on the creation of an onboarding program to empower employees in higher education institutions. The topics of onboarding, professional development, and team building specifically for admissions professionals working in Christian higher education institutions were discussed. Three workshop sessions were created for admissions professionals in which participants had the opportunity to learn more about their institution, about their roles as admissions professionals, about their personal strengths and skills, and about their engagement to develop relationships with their coworkers. The topics of training, development, and team building served to empower employees in their positions, and in their lives, to serve students effectively. The research found that knowledge of the institution, knowledge of oneself, serving others, building community, comfort in getting to know coworkers, and fulfillment are imperative to empowering employees in Christian higher education institutions.
