Social Housing Leadership: U.S. Realtors, Implicit Racial Bias, Values- Based Leadership, and Black American Stratification
Johnson, Shawn W.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Dallas Baptist University
The current study used a quantitative non-experimental design to examine the relationship between values-based leadership and implicit racial bias in American real estate professionals. The current study also examined race Implicit Association Test median implicit racial bias preferences and mean Value-Based Leadership Scale -- Self-Assessment score differences in real estate professionals. 148 participants completed a combined survey instrument which established the presence of values-based leadership and implicit racial bias in the population. The findings revealed a non-significant relationship between values-based leadership and implicit racial bias. The findings revealed that there were no significant differences between mean values-based leadership scores based on real estate professionals' job category, race, and geography. The findings also revealed that there were no significant differences between median implicit racial bias preferences based on real estate professionals' job category, gender, age, and geography; however, there was a significant difference in implicit racial bias preferences based on race. While values-based leadership findings were novel, the current study validated prior research examining implicit racial bias in American populations. The current study also provided several leadership recommendations to address Black American housing inequities.
