A Qualitative Descriptive Design of Latina's Career Development through a Professional Association
Amarillas, Angie
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
This qualitative descriptive study aimed to explore how Latina professionals in supervisory roles described a long-term affiliation with a professional association in Arizona. The fundamental theoretical foundation of the study is the social cognitive career theory, which led to four research questions. The idea was to describe Latina professionals in supervisory roles that describe the influence, interest, choice, and performance of a long-term affiliation with a professional association in their career development. This theory evolved from Bandura's social cognitive theory, which identified that people learn by experience. However, in social cognitive career theory, the consideration is how individuals interpret their environment and utilize their career development. The researcher utilized 13 participants that provided data through semi-structured open-ended interviews. The researcher utilized four participants from the 13 participants who provided data in the focus group. The nine themes emerged from an analysis done by In-Vivo coding. The themes represented perceptions concerning career development. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
