A Systematic Review of Multisensory Instruction Targeted toward Improving Literacy Rates in Elementary Students
Gassid, Jennah
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
Reading proficiency levels among elementary-aged students in the United States have been alarmingly unsatisfactory for decades. The absence of basic foundational reading skills will induce struggles in every other subject area, causing students to feel exhausted, defeated, and fall behind. Intervention can be successful when instruction is purposeful, and reading deficits are detected early. Executing better reading practices requires intentionality focused on students to enhance their reading abilities. A systematic review of educational research was conducted to outline best practices when implementing multisensory reading instruction for elementary-aged students to strengthen reading growth.
