The number of enrolled international students in U.S. higher education has grown from 71,616 in 2009 to 1,095,299 in 2019, accounting for 5.5% of the entire U.S. higher education population (Institute of International Education, 2019). Large numbers of international students graduate with a U.S. bachelor's degree, and many desire to seek employment in the United States after graduation. National Career Development Association (2015) suggested 80% of international students wished to work in the United States after graduation. Past literature has greatly focused on international students' transitional issues (e.g., linguistic, social, and cultural adjustment) when first moving to study in the United States, however, limited research has examined international students' experiences in career seeking, and how institutional officials provide the support to prepare international students for postgraduate employment in the United States. This case study examined the perceptions and experiences of both international students and campus services personnel regarding university support in guiding international students toward career placement in the United States. The study was conducted at Maple University (a pseudonym). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 participants: seven students and three staff members. The findings were grouped into four domains--students' career goals and paths, campus career support, legal and cultural barriers, and participant recommendations. The findings and the existing literature helped inform implications and recommendations for better practices and policies at Maple University. A campus-wide effort is needed to develop policies and procedures to address and implement the recommendations derived from this study.
