Social Contexts Affecting Discipline Disproportionality at a Suburban North Texas Middle School
Hall, Stephanie A.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lamar University - Beaumont
This study was created to establish a connection between social contexts and disproportionality in discipline at a suburban North Texas middle school. A mixed methods study was completed using chi-square and descriptive tests for quantitative use, then, In Vivo, Process, and Pattern coding with Code-weaving for qualitative use to disseminate focus group data. The study looked at data from the 2018-2019 school year pre-COVID-19 through the 2021-2022 school year post-COVID-19. Data revealed that there is a correlation between social contexts and discipline disproportionality for African American students and male students.
