The Relationship between English Language Proficiency Level and Growth in Reading: A Quantitative Analysis of English Learners in First, Second, and Third Grade
Oetgen, Maria Mercedes
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Marymount University
The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine whether there is a correlation between English language proficiency level (ELP) and growth in reading for English learners (ELs) in first, second, and third grade in suburban Virginia. In order to develop language skills, it is important to take the four language domains into consideration, listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The researcher used descriptive statistics to analyze pre-existing data from the PALS, DIBELS, and ACCESS for ELLs. The results showed that there is a correlation between ELP level and growth in reading for ELs. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
