Assessing Professional Development Needs of Spanish Evangelical Christian Educators: An Examination of Worldviews

Biblical worldview integration is a distinguishing mark of a Christian school (Burton & Nwosu, 2003). However, it is improbable that teachers will successfully integrate a biblical worldview if they do not first hold that worldview themselves. The purpose of this qualitative investigation was to enhance understanding of the professional development needs of Spanish Evangelical Christian (SEC) educators through an examination of their worldviews and the alignment with a three-dimensional biblical worldview model. The research was conducted through in-person interviews of SEC educators using a hermeneutic phenomenological design. The results of the study provided insights into the worldviews and professional development needs of SEC educators. The themes that emerged correlated with previous literature pertaining to worldview, biblical worldview, the development of a three-dimensional biblical worldview framework, and the importance of a teacher's worldview in the classroom. The information gleaned from the data benefits SEC educators, the schools in which they teach, and Christian education in Spain as a whole.
