A Case Study of a Public-School Partnership: Perceptions of the Sense of Community within the Partnership Organization
Sponsel, Sarah Beth
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Concordia University Texas
This mixed-methods case study was designed to examine the sense of community of an LCMS church in partnership with a Title I public school for 10 years. The sense of community evaluates the level of membership, influence, fulfillment of needs, and emotional connection that the church stakeholders have to the mission of the community partnership. Previous data support the value that mutually beneficial partnerships have for schools and the enrichment of learning environments. This study focuses on the church-school partnership due to the non-traditional nature of the partnership and the availability of this partnership type in communities of all sizes. Quantitative data was gathered from church members, leaders, and staff completing the sense of community Index survey. Qualitative data was gathered through interviews with church members, leaders, and staff for personal experiences as members of the partnership organization. The results support that after 10 years in partnership, the church members, leaders, and staff value aspects of the partnership and have a desire to continue the partnership.
