The Illinois State Board of Education crafted their Strategic Plan as a roadmap to equity, defining the steps their agency will take to improve and increase opportunities and supports for Illinois students, especially those in the greatest need. They adopted the plan in November 2020, nine months into a global pandemic that continues to shape the world today. Despite the challenges caused by the pandemic, the agency, in partnership with educators, principals, administrators, parents, advocates, and students, accomplished a lot. The Strategic Plan also helped the agency maintain a laser-like focus on their goals as they addressed the impact of the pandemic. This report describes the agency's collective achievements that brought them closer than ever to reaching their goals in the areas of student learning, learning conditions, and elevating educators.
