Increased Barriers to Transfer between Technical Colleges and Four-Year Private Colleges: Articulation Agreements and Partnerships Paving the Way for a More Inclusive Transfer Culture
Brooks, Kristin
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Northeastern University
Transfer students have an expectation to finish a?bachelor's?degree program in the industry standard, four years. The purpose of this study is to help?create?viable?academic partnerships with surrounding technical colleges to produce clear articulation agreements, ensuring all technical college transfers graduate with a baccalaureate degree in the industry standard. Participants in Cycle 1 consisted of Ann Carr College leadership, faculty and staff who are directly involved in the transfer process. Data collected from these interviews was coded using InVivo Coding and resulted in four distinct themes: Relationships, Leadership, Intentionality, and Revitalization. The Cycle 2 action step consisted of developing a Transfer Articulation Guide for academic divisions to provide guidance on how to approach and implement articulation agreements and partnerships with surrounding Technical Colleges. Findings included centralization and oversight of process, knowledge and training of stakeholders and participants, and support. Implications for the organization included greater commitment to transfer student success, more effective advising, and stronger partnerships with technical colleges.
