The Influence of a One Stop Shop on Student Satisfaction at a Two Year Institution: A Case Study--Ocean County College
Hartigan, Sheenah
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Fairleigh Dickinson University
Today's post-secondary institutions in the United States are seeing the continuous decline of enrollment. In Fall, 2020, there were 19 million students enrolled in college according to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center in 2020, which is a decline of 4.4% from the prior year. While the decline can partially be attributed to the global pandemic, COVID-19, the loss of two-year students is nearly 19 times the decline from Fall 2018 to Fall 2019. The largest declines were among new student populations at 13% for all sectors and 18.9% in community colleges. It's apparent that schools may need to make some changes to maintain fiscal sustainability in order to serve their communities. As the price of college has continued to rise, so have students' expectations of the customer service that they will receive. One way in which many colleges have begun to better meet the needs of their students is through the use of a one stop enrollment shop, a singular landing point for students to complete all of the transactions needed to effectively apply, register and pay for their college education. Ocean County College launched a one stop shop in 2017 with the intent to increase student satisfaction through a focused effort on service excellence, an area that had been identified as one of opportunity. The research below will show whether the implementation of a one stop shop on a single two-year institution had effects on students' satisfaction.
