Adult Learner Engagement Gaps in a Virtual Environment
Peace, Paula Marie
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Saint Leo University
A virtual learning environment aims to engage the student, enabling them to interact and express their understanding of the material. Virtual learning engagement for adult learners is essential for active learning. The lack of active learning is a problem, as evident through researched university learner responses. In this descriptive method study, 60 instructional systems designers were queried via a survey. This quantitative research study was focused on active learning engagement in a virtual modality to determine whether there is a relationship between the traditional classroom curriculum and the virtual environment. The 86% response rate indicated that instructional systems designers developed the curriculum to create an online learning community.
