Nurturing Your Preschool-Age Multilingual Child Amid COVID-19: The Important Role of Languages
Colón, Ingrid T.; Stechuk, Robert
UnidosUS
Parents, family members, and other adults can play critical roles in helping their multilingual preschool-age children confront the stresses and trauma of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. This brief highlights various language practices of multilingual children that deserve to be respected and nurtured through daily conversations and interactions. It offers recommendations to affirm and celebrate children's language practices as great ways to foster learning and development of two or more languages and their social and emotional wellbeing so that they grow up happy, confident, and whole.
