Transfer Student Engagement: Characteristics of the Sending Institution That Influence Post-Transfer Engagement
Wheatley, Kathryn
AERA Online Paper Repository, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (San Antonio, TX, Apr 27-May 1, 2017)
Transfer students often come from lower-income backgrounds, fail engage post-transfer, and graduate at lower rates than their native peers. Engagement is recognized as a factor connected to college student success. This study examines a business college cohort to determine the connections between pre-transfer student and school characteristics, post-transfer financial aid, and post-transfer student engagement. Using multiple linear regression, the study finds that ethnicity, as well as timing and type of financial aid, associate with levels of post-transfer engagement.
