Exploring the Relationship between Authentic Leadership and Job Satisfaction of Special Education Educators in Texas

This non-experimental study examined the relationship between perceived Authentic Leadership of his/her leader and special education educators' Job Satisfaction from the perception of the special education educator. The convenience sample consisted of 188 special education educators in the state of Texas. Participants completed a demographic questionnaire regarding his/her age, gender, ethnicity, and tenure in special education and assessed the perception of his/her leaders' Authentic Leadership as measured by "Authentic Leadership Questionnaire" (ALQ) and his/her Job Satisfaction measured by abridged "Job Descriptor Index" (aJDI) and abridged "Job in General" (aJIG). A multiple regression analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between Authentic Leadership and Job Satisfaction in special education in Texas. Findings in this study revealed that Age was a significant predictor of Satisfaction with Coworkers (R[superscript 2] = 0.024, beta = 0.156) and Satisfaction with Supervision (R[superscript 2] = 0.024, beta = -0.156). Ethnicity was a significant predictor of Satisfaction with Pay (R[superscript 2] = 0.034) and significant differences were found in White and Hispanic educators (F(2, 180) = 3.31, p < 0.05). Relational Transparency was a significant predictor of Satisfaction with Present Job (R[superscript 2] = 0.070, beta = 0.247); Satisfaction with Pay (DeltaR[superscript 2] = 0.061, beta = 0.248, r[subscript p] = 0.249); Satisfaction with Supervision (DeltaR[superscript 2] = 0.017, beta = 0.260, r[subscript p] = 0.200); and Satisfaction with Job in General (R[superscript 2] = 0.141, beta = 0.363). Internalized Moral Perspective was a significant predictor of Satisfaction with Promotion (R[superscript 2] = 0.137, beta = 0.370); Satisfaction with Supervision (DeltaR[superscript 2] = 0.498, beta = 0.715, r[subscript p] = 0.715); and Satisfaction with Coworkers (DeltaR[superscript 2] = 0.037, beta = 0.194, r[subscript p] = 0.196). Self-Awareness was also a significant predictor of Satisfaction with Supervision (DeltaR[superscritp 2] = 0.050, beta = 0.360, r[subscript p] = 0.326).
