Discipleship Perceptions and Practices of P-12 Christian School Principals: A Phenomenological Exploration
Frye, Margaret Renea
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Regent University
The purpose of this research study was to examine how Christian school principals at schools that are members of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) perceive discipleship and gain understanding of the common definitions, implementations, and evaluations used in practice. The researcher chose the qualitative approach to explore the concept of discipleship as perceived by school leaders, utilizing the phenomenological method for data collection and analysis. To examine the perceptions of principals, the researcher interviewed eight school principals from ACSI member schools in the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin using an interview protocol developed for this research. Participant perceptions revealed recognition of the discipleship opportunity Christian schools provided as well as the definition of discipleship in terms of actions that facilitate engagement. Participants also shared implementation activities and mindsets, along with the challenges associated with evaluation.
