Volpi, Karla Evelyn
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
The purpose of this quantitative descriptive study is to discover to what extent self-efficacy, indicated by self-confidence, optimism, proactive coping, and capability belief, as measured by the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) is present in Native American college graduates. A convenience sample of 512 Native American college graduates, representing 36 different states, and over 120 different Native Nations responded to an online survey consisting of 6 demographic questions and the 10 statements that comprise the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES). The study found 98.44% of the Native American college graduates scored higher than average in self-confidence. The researcher also found 97.66% of the Native American college graduates scored higher than average in optimism. In addition, the researcher found 99.61% of the Native American college graduates scored higher than average in proactive coping. The researcher also found 98.83% of the Native American college graduates scored higher than average in capability belief. Finally, the researcher found a correlation using Spearman's rho correlation coefficient between the highest degree the respondents had achieved and self-confidence (r[subscript s] (511) = 0.145, p <0.005), optimism (r[subscript s] (511) = 0.167, p <0.005), proactive coping (r[subscript s] (511) = 0.157, p <0.005) and capability belief (r[subscript s] (511) = 0.143, p <0.005).
