Excelencia in Education
Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) are defined in federal law as accredited and degree-granting public or private nonprofit institutions of higher education with 25 percent or more total undergraduate Hispanic full-time equivalent student (FTE) enrollment. In 2016-17, there were 492 HSIs located in 21 states and Puerto Rico. These institutions represented 15% of all institutions of higher education and enrolled 65% of Latino undergraduates.
