Delaware P20 Council: An Assessment of the Awareness and Perceptions of the Achievement of Defining Readiness
Foster Lewis, Taquil
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wilmington University (Delaware)
The purpose of this study was to assess the significance of the Delaware P20 Council's achievement of creating a statewide definition of college and career readiness based on the awareness, perception, and believed impact of defining readiness held by high school (secondary) educators and first-year college students attending Wilmington University. The study used a cross-sectional survey design to collect data for analysis. There were 109 participants in the P20 Council: Defining Readiness - Educator Survey and 16 participants in the P20 Council: Defining Readiness - Student Survey. The data collection window spanned 31 days from the start of the 2018-2019 academic year to the end of September 2018. Overall, the findings of this study indicated that there is a moderate level of awareness of the Delaware P20 Council's statewide definition for readiness among high school (secondary) educators throughout the state. However, it is a point of concern that so many educators are not actually familiar with the language of the statewide definition of education but indicated they believed that defining readiness influences curriculum, classroom instruction, and student services to a high-moderate degree. It is recommended that the Delaware P20 Council consider expanding its definition to include language identified by the study's participants and consider other focus areas to improve the transitional gap for secondary students. Future research includes a focus on assessing the awareness, perception and believed impact of defining readiness among the student and parent population in the state of Delaware.
