Exploring the Cultural Dimensions of Instructional Design: Models, Instruments, and Future Studies
Wang, Minjuan; Schlichtenmyer, Steve
Educational Media and Technology Yearbook
Global companies often face cultural issues when they conduct training of employees in other countries. In today's increasingly global and digitally connected society, it is essential to assure the alignment between the learning needs of individuals from different cultures and the way content is designed and delivered, both online and face-to-face. Many educators and designers often find themselves in the position of developing instruction for learners with backgrounds and cultures very different from their own. Here we present a comprehensive review of theories and models related to instructional design, learning preference, motivation, and culture. We also present research instruments that can be used to study these variables. [For the complete volume, "Educational Media and Technology Yearbook, Volume 40," see ED593960.]
