Care to Comment? Parent Perspectives on Louisiana Scholarship Program (LSP) and Non-LSP Schools as Revealed through Expressed Commentary
Burke, Lindsey Marie
AERA Online Paper Repository, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (San Antonio, TX, Apr 27-May 1, 2017)
This study examines the extent to which there is a difference in satisfaction between parents of children attending private schools that participate in the Louisiana Scholarship Program (LSP) and of children who attend non-LSP private schools, using parents' expressed commentary as proxies for satisfaction. This is the first study to consider whether school participation in the LSP is associated with parental satisfaction, adding to the growing body of literature addressing underperformance in the LSP. Through a combination of content analysis and statistical validation techniques, this study finds a relationship between participation in the LSP and the type of review a parent leaves of a school, and finds a pattern suggesting parents leave more negative reviews of LSP schools.
