Ramsey, Lesley C.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Northcentral University
A qualitative case study focused on the perceptions and belief of preschool teachers using technology to enhance school readiness skills. A case study was utilized in the investigation to explore and provide a clearer understanding of teachers' perceptions of their use of technology in the classroom to enhance school readiness skills. The results of this case study provided findings that highlight various ways technology is used in the classroom to enhance school readiness skills. Findings showed teachers use technology in the classroom to develop and reinforce the different skills needed for school. Throughout the interview, process teachers admitted the need for more professional development in using technology with preschoolers or young children. The recommendations show that preschool teachers need further professional development in using technology with preschoolers to learn the different programs, apps, and pieces of technology in the classroom. Professional development in using technology allowed teachers to understand how the use of technology increases/enhances the learning of young students. The goal is that the findings of this study will be utilized by early childhood providers to understand how technology is enhancing school readiness skills and how leaders can improve professional development for early childhood teachers. The research data and subsequent analysis were found to support the problem and purpose of this study. The data also aligns with previous research studies in the use of technology in early childhood classrooms.
