Perceptions of Servant Leadership and Student Satisfaction among Undergraduate E-Learners: A Correlational Study
Poorman, Denise Monde
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Trident University International
There has been a growth in servant leadership interest and many consider servant leadership as a prominent leadership model derived from core leadership theories. The concept behind this model is leaders are servants first who desire to serve others based on collaboration, trust, empathy, and ethics (Burkus, 2010). A survey was comprised by combining questions from pre-existing reliable and valid instruments to measure servant leadership in relation to student satisfaction of learning experience and student satisfaction of teacher quality of instruction and effectiveness and among undergraduate students who choose to take their courses online. This quantitative study collected data from 112 online undergraduate students and it was found servant leadership predicts student satisfaction of learning experience and teacher quality of instruction and effectiveness in the online modality. This research is significant because there are little to no studies that focus exclusively on servant leadership and student satisfaction of learning experience and student satisfaction of teaching quality and effectiveness in the e-modality. Implications of this study stems from the issue of how leaders in higher education may be able to identify key servant leadership qualities to support and nurture instructors, contributing to retention and persistence towards remaining competitive in the ever changing world of education.
