The Role a Mentoring Program Plays on the Professional Growth of Novice Urban K-12 Administrators
Arroyo, Richard M.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, University of Hartford
The purpose of this research was to examine the role of a mentoring program on the professional growth of novice urban K-12 administrators. This research provided an opportunity for urban K-12 administrators to discuss their experiences of day-to-day school and district level operations while participating in a mentoring program. Through the lens of their narrative this study concluded that: authentic learning; collaboration; exposure to district resources; and prior leadership experiences evolved into an overarching theme of collegiality. As a result of this research aspiring urban K-12 administrators will take on the role of urban K-12 administrators and district leaders more confidently. The findings of this study reinforced the need for a mentoring program for novice urban K-12 administrators which will lead to professional growth and a well equipped school leader.
