Numerous research and literature available on residence life are centered on students' experiences from the United States. Available literature indicates residence life is an important step in building a solid foundation for success in and beyond college. Success in college is a way of building lifelong relationships and finding one's place both socially and academically. Limited data about the effect of residence life in All Purpose University a Ghanaian university are available since it was constructed in 2014. The purpose of this qualitative exploratory case study was to investigate the impact of APU's hostel on students' social, academic, and leadership development. Twenty students from four residence halls were purposely selected to participate to garner rich information about residence life in the university through face to face interviews. In addition to the semi-structured interviews, a videotape was used to capture facial expressions and gestures to confirm captured data. Archival records of students' surveyed prior to their stay in residence halls were examined together with personal observations to verify the accuracy of the information gathered. These students lived in the hostel for three years and gained significant academic and social skills and developed leadership skills. This study may equip universities and colleges within Ghana and similar regions with relevant information, and the foundation for academic, social and leadership skill set improvements.
