Eventual Leadership for Millennial Women
Fiddler, Sarah C.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Northcentral University
The problem is the absence of women in leadership roles, particularly women of the Millennial generation, at community colleges. Women of the Millennial generation were surveyed through an anonymous online survey through to determine why they believe they are not considered for leadership roles at community colleges. The purpose of this qualitative, exploratory case study is to gain the perspective of Millennial women and what those women report prevents them from such leadership opportunities. The participants were women, staff members at a community college who were born in the 1980s to 1990s (Millennial) generation. The findings indicated that women feel networking activities are male-dominated, discrimination is still relevant, societal influences and older generations are not open to the possibility of hiring women as top executives, women do not ask for promotions, and women are held to higher standards and need to have more qualifications. The research findings contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of women from the Millennial generation at Stark State College, other institutions of higher education, business and industry and political positions, particularly to impact public policy. These findings may also have value as topics for further research. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
