The Relationship between Job Satisfaction and Overall Wellness in Counselor Educators
Riley, Julie
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Capella University
This study explored the relationship between overall wellness and job satisfaction in counselor educators. Full-time counselor educators employed in higher education programs accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) completed the Five Factor Wellness Inventory to measure overall wellness and the Job Satisfaction Survey to measure job satisfaction, including the specific variables of pay, promotion, supervision, and coworkers. A quantitative, nonexperimental approach was used to evaluate the following research question: Do scores on the four dimensions of the Job Satisfaction Survey significantly predict overall wellness scores on the Five Factor Wellness Inventory for counselor educators? Full-time counselor educators working in CACREP-accredited colleges and university programs were surveyed. The data were gathered online and the relationships between overall wellness and job satisfaction in counselor educators were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The results showed a negative correlation between overall wellness and job satisfaction in counselor educators and found no individual variable effect of job satisfaction on overall wellness. The negative correlation demonstrates a need for additional research evaluating these relationships so that more can be learned about work-life balance and ways to increase overall wellness in counselor educators. The results of this research can be used to develop initiatives and programs to improve overall wellness, while looking at the correlation with job satisfaction in counselor educators.
