Evaluation of a Community College Veteran Center and Student Veteran Success
Moore, Tracy Trenell
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wingate University
Student affairs professionals at community colleges are being confronted with a growing population of student veterans. Many college campuses are offering special academic support for veterans, while others are struggling to meet basic needs. Student veteran centers are becoming common on community college campuses as college campuses seek focused support, develop programs to aid in the military to classroom transition process, and streamline resources for veterans. These veteran centers provide an opportunity for veterans to congregate with each other and create a sense of belonging on campus. Veteran centers fully integrate student veteran support services, education benefits, and other services in one location. The centers usually encompass work-study students and a veteran service coordinator or director. While colleges are beginning to understand the challenges facing student veterans who are making the transition from combat to classroom, little is known how community college veteran resource centers contributes to veteran success.
