Teacher Appreciation and Its Effects on Teacher Satisfaction in a Low Performing Suburban Middle School
Hughes, Laura L.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
The purpose of this study was to explore teacher satisfaction and how it might be impacted by appreciation initiatives, if these initiatives increased teacher desire to stay at their current school, and if the impact of appreciation initiatives differed between years of experience. Participants were given a pre- and post-survey, and a focus group was used to triangulate data. Findings indicated that participants were less satisfied at the end of the study. Satisfaction did not differ significantly by years of experience; however, what would make each teacher category more satisfied did differ. It was proposed that other principal behaviors mitigated teacher satisfaction and feelings of appreciation even though most teachers agreed that staff were recognized for a job well done.
