It is important that school leaders exhibit sufficient levels of resilience to develop effective responses to environmental stressors while possessing the vision to move the school forward, despite adversity. Since there is little research connecting the concept of mindset to resilience in secondary school administrators, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of secondary school administrators' mindsets defined by Dweck's (2008) Growth vs. Fixed Mindset on stress resilience within professional roles. The participants comprised of 49 secondary school administrators from the school building and school district levels. They completed the following surveys: 1) a biographical questionnaire, 2) a Mindset Quiz and 3) a Stress Resiliency Profile (SRP). A subgroup of six participants experienced Consultee-Centered Consultation (Lambert, Hylander & Sandoval, 2004) comprising of three semi-structured sessions. The Mindset Quiz and the Stress Resiliency Profile were posttests. Three ANOVAs using three different outcome variables were conducted to investigate the relationship between the mindset of the school administrators and the subgroups of the Stress Resiliency Profile. A MANOVA to explore pretest and posttest changes in the experimental group followed the intervention. The effect of mindset on each of the subgroups within the Stress Resiliency Profile was not significant. There were no significant effects of Stress Resiliency factors of Deficiency Focusing, Necessitating, and Skill Recognition on the change in mindset of the participants. This study was meant to lay a foundation for further research into the possibility of a connection between school administrator mindset and stress resiliency levels within professional circumstances.
