This generic qualitative study investigated the experiences of counselors who use cognitive behavioral therapy with middle school students who were bullied. Counselors can play a significant role in the life of an adolescent when tools are offered to help the adolescent recognize negative thought patterns and help them work towards attaining future objectives. The researcher expected that the study would help fill the gap in the existing literature in the area of the experiences of counselors who use cognitive behavioral therapy with middle school students who were bullied. Ten English-speaking counselors, both men and women, who possess a degree in MSW, LCSW, MFT, and LMFT, which provide cognitive behavioral therapy to adolescents who are, or, have been bullied at school, participated and shared their experiences in face-to-face interviews using a semi-structured interview process, which addressed the question: How do counselors describe their experience of using CBT with middle school students who were bullied? Thematic data analysis as developed by Braun and Clarke (2006) (Braun & Clarke, 2006) was used that identified several themes, (a) referral sources, (b) frequency of referrals, (c) nature of referrals, (d) appropriateness of cognitive behavioral therapy with middle school child who have been bullied, (e) training with cognitive behavioral therapy, and (f) experience of a successful cognitive behavioral therapy treatment with middle school child who have been bullied, which encompassed the participants' experiences of cognitive behavioral therapy with middle school children, who have been bullied. Findings from this study indicate that the ten counselors who participated in this study believe that cognitive behavioral therapy played a role in the positive effects of middle schools children who have been bullied. While this study was limited to ten participants, the results of the study were consistent with the literature and revealed that cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is among the more effective therapies used by these participates, children with a number of mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety (Dobson, Hopkins, Fata, Scherrer, & Allan, 2010), that may transpire as a result of being bullied.
