The President/Principal Model: Nature and Adequacy of Presidential Training
Karcher, Daniel T.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Saint Louis University
This document reports the findings of a doctoral project completed as part of the Ed.D. program at Saint Louis University. In this team project, three doctoral candidates explored the nature and adequacy of the training of the Catholic high school president as part of the president/principal model of governance. The project team investigated the roles and responsibilities of the president and the nature and adequacy of the training they received. In addition to the knowledge search, this project utilized a survey instrument to gain information from current presidents serving in Catholic high schools across the nation. The knowledge search and the survey results provided the basis for the recommendations that the project team formulated. These recommendations focused on creating a national job description. Additionally, the project team made recommendations for improved programs at the college and university level as well as in the inclusion of more professional development in the areas of professional learning groups and formalized mentor relationships. The project team encourages further study regarding this topic prior to the implementation of any recommendations.
