ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Alliant International University
The purpose of this study was to investigate if the participation of Hispanic parents of English Language Learners in school activities influence their children's education. This was done by deliberately taking steps to recruit parents to participate in their child's academics and school affairs. The data that was used to test if involvement of Hispanic parents of English Language Learners affected their children to advance academically in school were: Academic Performance Index (API), Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), and parent surveys. The results from such measures yielded the following outcomes: Both schools support that the involvement of these parents had a positive impact on their children to advance academically in their schools. The research demonstrated that when the Hispanic parents of English Language Learners became more involved, the Hispanic group and all other subgroups, along with the school's overall API improved for both schools. The data also explained that the absence of Hispanic parental involvement in one of the middle schools affected their children negatively; it also lowered the overall school grading and other subgroups as well. This research highlights the importance of parental involvement in Hispanic English Language Learners' academics advancement in schools.
