The present study examined the activation of imaginal information on true and false memories. Participants studied a series of concrete objects in pictures or words. The imagery group (n = 96) was instructed to form images and the control group (n = 96) was not instructed to do so. Both groups were then given a standard recognition memory test and two criterial recollection tests. Results showed that hit rates in the imagery group were significantly higher than those in the control group, but false alarm rates did not differ in both groups. A word list is appended.
