Food for Thought: Expanding School Breakfast to NJ Students. [Updated]
Advocates for Children of New Jersey
Often, school districts are reluctant to adopt innovative approaches to serving children breakfast in school because of logistical concerns that are easily overcome. Districts that adopt these more innovative approaches report significant increases in participation rates and improvement in student behavior and performance. This report provides student participation data for every New Jersey school district with at least 20 percent of students eligible for free- or reduced-price school meals. These districts are required by state law to have a school breakfast program. This information can be used to identify districts that have low participation and should adopt a different method of serving breakfast. [For a related report (2011), see ED527107.]
