The iPod Revolution: An Exploratory Case Study of the Implementation of an iPod Touch Pilot Program
Stanfield, Staci A.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lamar University - Beaumont
This exploratory case study was designed to investigate the implementation of an iPod touch pilot program in sixth grade science classrooms at an intermediate school in Southeast Texas. More specifically, this study explored the benefits and challenges associated with the utilization of iPod touch devices for students, teachers, and their campus principal. The growing popularity of the iPod touch has made the device an attractive teaching tool that could be incorporated into K-12 classrooms, but there is limited research available regarding the implementation process. Four students, two teachers, and their principal were interviewed for this investigation. Their stories were developed into lengthy narrative passages. Direct interpretation was utilized as a case study research method when analyzing the data collected. The data were categorized and coded to easily recognize patterns and themes derived from the participant interviews. Some of the major findings from this study were increased student engagement, increased student collaboration, improved student behavior, increased teacher collaboration and motivation, improved professional development, enhanced instructional strategies, increased support for iPod touch teachers, and improved leadership for campus principals.
