The Impact of Dual Credit Participation on Community College Success: A Comparison of Home Schooled and Non-Home Schooled High School Graduates
Devora, Denise
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Capella University
Accelerated learning options such as dual credit, dual enrollment, and Advanced Placement have been increasing in popularity, yet there is minimal research to demonstrate the effectiveness of these programs in meeting their implied objective among public, private, and charter school students. Even less research exists to indicate the effectiveness of accelerated learning options on home schooled students and how they experience college. This is a concern given that home schooling is the fastest growing from of education. This research employed a quantitative design to analyze the impact of dual credit participation on community college success by comparing the perceptions of home schooled and non-home schooled high school graduates who had participated in a dual credit/concurrent enrollment program at institutions within a particular community college district. Analysis of the data concluded that home schooled students were less satisfied on the dimensions of overall satisfaction, satisfaction with academic preparation, and satisfaction with their level of college readiness. No significant difference was found between the groups on the dimension of satisfaction with preparation for the academic rigor of college-level work.
