Teaching Grammar
Crawford, William J.
TESOL International Association
Grammar is a component in all language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Teachers need to know rules of grammar (teacher knowledge) as well as techniques that help students use grammar effectively and effortlessly (teaching knowledge). Using reflective practice to help teachers become comfortable with teaching grammar, this easy-to-follow guide defines grammar from a teacher perspective, shows how corpus linguistics can be a useful tool, covers basic concepts of grammar research, and addresses important components of teaching grammar. "Teaching Grammar" is a valuable addition to the literature in this profession. Following a preface, contents include: (1) Introduction; (2) Grammar: Form, Meaning, and Use; (3) Form, Meaning, Use, and Corpora; (4) Grammar Teaching and Grammar Knowledge; (5) Issues in Grammar Teaching; and (6) Conclusion. References are also included.
