Perspectives of Student Combat Veterans Diagnosed with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on Their Experiences in Higher Education
Ryder, Richard R., Jr.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Capella University
The intention of the this qualitative study was to explore the perceptions of military combat veteran college students (MCVCS) who self-identify as having been diagnosed with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). They were offered the opportunity to answer questions on the experiences they have in higher education. The study inquired on the subject utilizing online surveys concerning how these individuals perceive how they are dealing with the disorder within their educational environment. Data was obtained with these surveys to provide an understanding of the issues and obstacles military combat veteran college students (MCVCS) with PTSD face when they are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs. This was based on their experiential self-observations. The study of veterans' perceptions of their experiences was conducted utilizing a population of psychology and education students from two local universities to better comprehend how they adjust within their scholastic environment while experiencing the symptoms of PTSD.
