This executive position paper proposes an innovative Career and Technical Pathway for secondary education. The Secondary Teacher Education Pathway (STEP) is a teacher education pathway for high school students who are interested in teaching as a profession. The goal of this Program is to increase the number of African American male teachers in Delaware's public middle and high schools, and also to raise awareness of the profession. A sequence of courses for the program has been prepared to provide high school students with the training and skills to successfully transition into a college or university teacher education program. It is evident that Delaware needs to close the racial gap of teachers and students. Delaware needs more African American teachers.
