Industrial Education in 1924-1926. Bulletin, 1927, No. 29
Proffitt, Maris M.
Bureau of Education, Department of the Interior
A survey of educational literature, of courses of study both in the public schools and teacher-training institutions, of the programs of educational conventions, of conference reports, and of special reports from many school systems leads to the conclusion that more activity has been manifested during the past two years in the study of the problems involved in the manual arts work and industrial forms of education than in any similar period in the past. In the field of the manual arts much attention has been given to the objectives to be included and to the types of organization to be used in making this type of work a more important factor in the accomplishment of the ends of public education. This bulletin further reviews the field of industrial education, and explores specifically: (1) Manual arts in the senior high school; (2) Manual arts in the junior high school; (3) Manual arts in consolidated schools; (4) Itinerant work; (5) Limited activities in the manual arts; (6) Home mechanics courses; (7) The general shop; (8) Occupational information and guidance; (9) Part-time, evening, and apprenticeship courses; (10) Vocational training for disabled civilians; (11) Visual education; and (12) Teacher training. The summary of progress lists 13 areas of progress for the biennium, 1924-1926. [Best copy available has been provided.]
