This report presents the statistics of public schools in cities for the school year 1921-1922. The bureau has followed the classification based upon population as reported by the Bureau of the Census in 1920. Group I includes all cities having a population of 100,000 or more; Group II includes cities having a population of 30,000 or more, but fewer than 100,000; Group III includes cities having a population of 10,000 or more, but fewer than 30,000; Group IV included cities with a population of 2,500 or more, but fewer than 10,000. This bulletin contains detailed statistics for groups I, II, and III. Summary tables only are given for group IV. The following topics are covered in this bulletin: (1) Comparative table of statistics; (2) Historical statistics; (3) Administrative officers employed and expenditures of auxiliary agencies; (4) Length of school term, number of teachers, enrollment, attendance, numbers of schools and school buildings; (5) Kindergartens; (6) Elementary and secondary schools; (7) Junior high schools; (8) Special schools for the deaf, blind, feeble-minded, etc.; (9) Vocational and trade schools; (10) Colleges and normal schools; (11) Part-time and continuation schools; (12) Evening schools; (13) Summer schools; (14) Receipts; (15) Expenditures; (16) Bonds, taxation, property values; (17) Summary of personnel and attendance; and (18) Summary of expenditures and school property value.
