Case Study: eCoaching in a Corporate Environment
Warner, Teri L. C.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Capella University
This qualitative particularistic case study was an exploration and evaluation of an online, asynchronous, non-human coaching system called an "eCoaching system." Developed by the researcher, the eCoaching system combined performance coaching with the latest technologies in eLearning. The coaching was based on the appreciative inquiry approach, and the eLearning included pedagogical characters also known as interactive avatars. This eCoaching study explored and evaluated the impact of the use of the eCoaching system and the changes in an individual's performance. Participants were from a Fortune 500 company and interacted with an avatar as the coach to enhance skills in four areas: presentation skills, listening skills, project management, and time management. This eCoaching study determined that, in certain situations, an eCoaching system is a viable alternative to other means of coaching.
