The seminary is an educational institution that exists for the purpose of training people for a variety of vocational and academic ministries such as local church pastors, missionaries, educational instructors, seminary professors, and a plethora of other local church positions, and para-church organizations. The seminary has existed in various forms and it has used numerous curriculums to accomplish its task of training people for ministry, but the standard that has evolved over time is the Master of Divinity degree. Although many seminaries offer a variety of degrees to fit the training needs of the minister, the Master of Divinity has continued to remain the basic standard. The twenty-first century brings its own unique challenges to life and ministry, and this is especially true for those ministering in local churches. The Southern Baptist Convention, including its churches and six seminaries, will face those challenges, as will other seminaries and local churches of different denominational positions. Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary is one of the six Southern Baptist Seminaries preparing people for ministry. Changes to its Master of Divinity curriculum have been made by administration in recent years to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century. This study examines the perceptions of the students, faculty, and administration concerning the Master of Divinity program at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary from 2005-2009. The study attempts to determine congruence between the students' perceptions and the faculty's and administrations' perceptions on a number of variables. A mixed method approach is pursued in this study with results obtained from statistical analysis of a variety of variables in the quantitative section. Further data was obtained from qualitative questions that were coded according to common themes emerging from the questions that were referenced by number in the survey, and language and vocabulary that was used in the responses. The data from both sections was combined together in determining the perceptions of both groups and to see if there was congruence. The data determined that there was congruence in some areas and a lack of congruence in other areas, but not to the degree that was anticipated. Overall, this research supports the belief that the master of divinity program at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary from 2005-2009 has prepared men and women for effective ministry The training of people for ministry must be continually evaluated and changed in order to meet the present challenges of the day.
