This study focused upon the infamous "Wall of Separation" between church and state--its cornerstones, apparently eternal construction process, and current structural integrity. Within the context of providing truly caring learning environments for all students, a critical analysis was completed in order to help determine whether or not God, or the spiritual domain of life, has been formally and fully extracted from the institution of American public education. After obtaining a firm understanding of the historical underpinnings of a relationship between religion and public schooling in America, this study carefully dissected over two centuries of case law in order to illustrate a clear picture of the evolution, or lack there-of, of church and state jurisprudence. As the various eras of organization and management reared and eventually buried their collective heads throughout American history, the effects were undoubtedly felt both within the public schools and throughout the judicial branch. The end goal of this project was to adequately delineate the most current, judicially reinforced manifestations of appropriate interaction between these two revered life-long companions.
