Audio Adapted Assessment Data: Does the Addition of Audio to Written Items Modify the Item Calibration?
Snyder, James
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, George Fox University
This dissertation research examined the changes in item RIT calibration that occurred when adding audio to a set of currently calibrated RIT items and then placing these new items as field test items in the modified assessments on the NWEA MAP test platform. The researcher used test results from over 600 students in the Poway School District in California. Item calibration and comparison t-tests were done on mathematics and reading items. The findings of the research found that there was not a significant change in the overall item calibrations from the assessment items (current and audio modified). Audio enhanced items have the opportunity to provide students with the opportunity to hear the item read out loud in English which allows for additional accommodations that could be useful to students.
