Off-Campus Employee Perceptions of Organizational Culture at a Higher Education Institution
Malley, Krista H.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Oakland University
Off-campus locations affiliated with established, traditional higher education institutions have grown over the last 30 years (Rohfeld, 1990). The expansion of traditional academia's reach beyond the range of the normal student population has presented many diverse logistical challenges. One of these challenges is the transmittal of organizational culture from the main campus to off-campus location employees. The purpose of the proposed study is to examine the current and preferred perception of organizational culture within off-campus populations of a higher education institution using the Diagnosing Organizational Culture survey developed by Harrison and Stokes (1992). This model conceptualizes four types of organizational culture which are power, role, support and achievement. This study will focus on administrative and classified employees at one four-year higher education institution that meets the criteria of having a main campus and multiple off-campus locations. The research proposes to add to the limited literature on off-campus locations in higher education specifically focusing on staff at the off-campus locations.
