The purpose of the study was to investigate the experiences of arranged marriage by the 1.5 Generation Asian Indian college students. The researcher identified 10 participants who met the following criteria: (a) were born in India to Asian Indian parents, (b) migrated to the United States under the age of 15, (c) were college students between the ages of 18 and 30, and (d) individuals who were expected to have arranged marriages. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the researcher explored the experience of arranged marriage as it was felt and understood by the 1.5 Generation Asian Indian college students. Ultimately, the findings of this study have significant applications for counselors serving this population on colleges and university campuses. The collective themes that emerged from this study, its implications for counselors, and recommendations for future studies are presented.
