This paper addresses the observations of two administrators in a university English department in Tokyo, Japan concerning the university's online class evaluation system. The evaluation system has students answer questions concerning their performance and their instructors performance after each class. It also allows students to leave feedback for their instructors. This paper looks at the advantages of the online evaluation system such as providing instructors with immediate and frequent feedback allowing them to make needed changes to their courses. It also observes the disadvantages of the system such as students' inability to provide pertinent feedback to instructors to make changes. The paper concludes with suggestions for further development of such online evaluation systems.
